Alexis K. Caughey

Alexis K. Caughey is a seasoned litigator licensed in Texas and Louisiana who defends commercial insureds from personal injury and property damage claims. Alexis’s practice has spanned a broad range of practice areas in federal and state courts throughout Texas and Louisiana. Most recently, Alexis focused her practice on energy litigation involving personal injury and property damage for both primary and excess policy holders.

Other areas of focus include construction defect, premise liability, breach of contract, fraud, and general negligence. Having regularly defended claims for wrongful death and catastrophic injury, as well as high value property damage, Alexis understands the importance of strong client advocacy and thorough legal analysis from notice of claim to resolution.

A native Houstonian, Alexis received her education from top ranked state schools, including a Bachelor of Arts in Government with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center. Alexis previously studied internationally, including in the Czech Republic, and regularly visits her family in South Africa. While not working, Alexis is an active mother to her young children and enjoys cooking, planning her next beach vacation and reading.

A sample of Alexis’s successful results includes:

  • Successfully defended oilfield client in fracing trial in Brazos County. Client was nonsuited after 4 days of trial and paid zero damages.
  • Obtained dismissal via motion practice of employer in wrongful death action involving plant explosion in Houston’s United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
  • Obtained dismissal via summary judgment on behalf of moving company against breach of contract and fraud action.
  • Successfully defended against Anti-Slapp Motion seeking to dismiss suit based on non-disclosure agreement.
  • Won bench trial for wrongful foreclosure and had client’s home loan discharged.
  • Drafted briefs in the following successful appeals:
    • Lemoine Co. v. Durr Heavy Constr., LLC, 15-1997 (La. App. 1 Cir. 10/31/16), 206 So. 3d 244 writ denied, 16-2100 (La. 1/13/17), 215 So. 3d 247
