James went on to start a firm with his colleagues — McKibben, Martinez, Jarvis & Wood L.L.P. For years he specialized in employment law, civil rights and personal injury defense. Since its inception, the practice has earned a prestigious reputation and became a cornerstone of the Corpus Christi legal community.
In 2017, he was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers. The organization is an invitation only fellowship of exceptional trial lawyers of diverse backgrounds from the U.S. and Canada. The college thoroughly investigates each nominee for admission and selects only those who have demonstrated the highest standards of trial advocacy, ethical conduct, integrity, professionalism and collegiality. While McKibben has received a number of accolades throughout his career, he said he considers this to be his most distinguished honor.
Along with his admittance into the American Collage of Trial Lawyers, James is a member of many other prestigious organizations, including the American Bar Association, Corpus Christi Bar Association, Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, Senior Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, Texas Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, American Board of Trial Advocates, Senior Life Fellow in the American Board of Trial Advocates Foundation, Senior Counsel in the College of Master Advocates and Barristers, and is Board‑Certified in Civil Trial Law for the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
